Earl Costello

EARL COSTELLO August 20, 1925 - February 11, 2019 93 yrs.

Cambridge, NY & Chiefland, FL was taken from us suddenly.

Born in Cambridge, NY to Michael J. and Elizabeth L.(Shaughnessy) Costello

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth(Davidsen) Costello and daus. Sharman Costello (Garth Pollard) of Houston, TX. and Mary Costello(Paul Webb) of Denver, CO., and son Michael Costello and granddaughter Emily DeSouza-Costello of Cambridge, NY., stepsons Eric Davidsen(Kathy)of Old Town, FL, Chris Davidsen(Georgiana) & their son CJ of Cambridge, NY, and step daughter Sue Hemingway of Glens Falls, NY.

He was predeceased by his first wife of 58yrs Beulah R. (Labier) Costello in 2007, a sister Elizabeth Hollembaek of Rochester, NY, and brother John Costello of Latham, NY.

Graduating Cambridge HS (1943), Earl enlisted in the US Marine Corps at 17, WWII Pacific theater.

He graduated from Univ. of Colorado in 1951 and worked for Continental Oil Co. in Lance Creek, WY as a drilling engineer.

He was a local school board president and credit union president there. He ran unsuccessfully for Wyoming State Representative in 1960 but was invited to the JFK inaugural. In 1963 Earl transferred to work for Oasis Oil Co. in Tripoli, Libya for 10 yrs. as an engineer and computer programmer. The family loved Libya and was able to travel extensively in Europe and the Middle East. After the Khadafy coup, the family relocated to Lake Lauderdale in Cambridge. Earl then worked for Washington County for 17 yrs retiring as Commissioner of Social Services in 1991. He was past president of the NY State Association of Social Service Commissioners, and a Past Commander American Legion Post 634 and a VFW Post 5625 member.

He was an avid outdoorsman and lifetime devoted golfer, even scoring his third hole-in-one at the age of 91. Earl was a kind, thoughtful, caring, and selfless man with a warm personality and Irish humor. He had a genuine smile.

 Services will be announced later with internment at the Gerald Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY in the summer.
