Cambridge - Daniel J. Walsh, 68, a lifelong resident of Cambridge, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Glens Falls
Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 28, 1956, at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge, Daniel was the son of the late William and Joan (Royal) Walsh. He was also predeceased by his infant sister, Kathleen Walsh, and brother-in-law Rob Colinas.
Daniel graduated from Cambridge Central School in 1974, before earning an Associate’s Degree in Construction Management from SUNY Delhi. A respected figure in the community, Daniel owned and operated Walsh Construction in Cambridge. Throughout his career, he was involved in numerous notable projects, including the construction of the Cambridge Medical Center and the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad. Daniel also renovated the Rice Mansion Inn and the Cambridge Hotel on two separate occasions, leaving a lasting mark on the town’s architectural landscape.
His dedication to the community extended beyond his professional work. Daniel served on the Cambridge Village Board for 11 years, including four years as Deputy Mayor and four years as Mayor, where he played an instrumental role in the merger of the Cambridge and Greenwich Police Departments. He was a founding member of the Cambridge Community Partnership and served on the St. Patrick’s Church building committee.
Daniel had a passion for travel and a love for sports, particularly the New York Giants. He also enjoyed reading non-fiction books and working on various household projects in his free time. His commitment to improving the lives of those around him, whether through his work or his volunteer efforts, was always at the forefront of his actions. He loved to use his gifts of storytelling and teaching to mentor others and bring joy to his many friends.
Daniel is survived by his beloved wife, Amy Mantzey-Walsh, whom he married on September 6, 2006. He is also survived by his daughter, Brianna Caroline Walsh (Sean) of Jay, NY, and his stepchildren, Audra (Barry) Abbate-Korb of Buskirk, NY, and Tyler Abbate (Kimberly) of Chesapeake, VA. He was a proud grandfather to Eva Skye Munn, Molly Abbate, Anna Abbate, and Mason Korb. Daniel is further survived by his siblings, Terence Walsh (Nancy) of Eagle Bridge, NY, Anne Walsh of Cambridge, NY, Mark Walsh (Roma) of Saratoga, NY, Stephen Walsh of Cambridge, NY, and Brian Walsh (Kathleen) of Goshen, NY, as well as former spouse Monica Buriello and her daughter, Heather Baird, plus many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Ackley, Ross & Gariepy Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.
Services will be Friday, December 27, 2024 at St. Patrick’s Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge at 1:30 PM, with Rev. James Walsh officiating. Interment will take place at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Cambridge. There will be an Open House at Anita’s Burger Den after the burial.

Daniel’s legacy of service, dedication, and love for his community will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As his friend George Van Hook said so eloquently, “a large tree has fallen in our forest”. He will be deeply missed.
