Barry Brown

Barry Lee Brown, 75, of Cambridge, NY, passed away peacefully at Westchester Medical Center on March 13, 2025.

Barry was born on June 20, 1949, in Bennington, Vermont and was the oldest son of the late Robert and Ethel Brown.

He graduated from Cambridge Central School in 1968 and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Point Defiance. He was most proud of the two trips to Danang to pick up marines and take them home.

He was employed as an electrician at Columbia Corporation until its closure. In his later years, he resided at The Cambridge Assisted Living, where he took pleasure in telling stories from the past, reading books about notable individuals, constructing model airplanes, and watching his favorite films. He valued the companionship of the residents and staff at The Cambridge and enjoyed taking drives along local roads with his close friend, Steve Merriman.

He is survived by a son, Robert Brown (Cathy) of Malone, NY, a daughter, Tasha Bailey of New Hampshire, a grandson, Sam and son-in-law Reid Bailey. Other survivors are a brother, Gregory Brown (Denice) of Lake Waccamaw, NC, a sister, Wendy Marino (Matthew) of Ballston Lake, and his former spouse, Regina. He also leaves nephews, aunts, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother Robert S. Brown.

The family thanks the medical teams of Albany Statton VA Hospital, Albany Medical Center, and Westchester Medical Center for their care. Special thanks to The Cambridge staff for their years of dedicated care.

A memorial service is being planned at The Cambridge for later this spring. Donations in Barry's memory can be made to either The Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, 37 Gilbert Street, Cambridge, NY 12816 (cambridgeems.com) or the American Legion Post 634, Route 22, POBox 84, Cambridge, NY 12816.
