QUESTION:  Are there any other events, festivals or other things of interest going on in the area the week before through the week after the Reunion?

The Class of 1976 would like to thank everyone who helped us locate missing classmates. Letters were mailed/emailed this week. If anyone did not receive either, please let us know. The class is planning an informal gathering on Friday evening beginning at 6:00 PM at the home of Tammy Langlois, Greene Road. Bring your choice of beverage and a snack or appetizer to share. We encourage everyone to join in the happenings in the village and at the Legion on Saturday.

Karron and I  are unable to attend the reunion this year.  If ever in the Kansas City area, give me a shout. Live in Independence Harry Truman's stopping grounds.  Will miss Wes and Ann's Brunch.

I've started making first aid kits for the scramble as I did for the last few. I plan to play and I'll try to attend some reunion events but as you know it all depends on my health.

Best wishes!

Tammy Hopkins Langlois, Class of 1976, Cambridge, NY......attending.....it's our 40th Reunion.  Really hoping to see more of our class this year!!  I am hosting a very informal get together Friday evening at my house for all class members or for anyone that would like to stop by and say hello.  It would be great to see some faces from the past!!!  Hope to see everyone over the Alumni weekend of events!!!

Hi Pauline and all the CCSers! I am so proud of our Varsity Burr and Burton Tennis Girls! They are going to the State Finals! My JV girls are awesome! I have had such a learning experience coaching these beautiful young ladies! It's a dream come true for me! Yes! I will be at the reunion and hope to make all events! Golf of course is my #1 priority! Have yet to sign up! So Mike if you see and read this? I will need to fill in a foursome! How about our winning four from last year?

Phyllis Mayer Fairley, Class of 1963

I won't be going.

ATTENTION: There may be some confusion between CCS Alumni and Friends and the website Classmates.com. ClassMates, com  is a business that offers to connect ALL schools across the country.  They are free up to a point BUT they have a membership charge to use their data base.   I am not affiliated with ClassMates nor is the CCS Alumni Association.

I do the CCS Alumni and Friends website and newsletter on my own with my own personal accounts..  There is absolutely no charge

I would never ask your credit/ debit card number or would ask you for any money.

FROM KEN GOTTRY, CLASS OF 1968

Norman Rockwell & CCS Principal

The display case as you enter CCS has an exhibit about Rockwell's painting Young Lady With a Shiner. The setting of the painting is the CCS Principal's Office. It was the *only* principal's office in 1953. When Jimmy Leone's elementary principal's office was built as part of the 1958 addition, the office by the front door became known as the Main Office. Today, it is the Elementary Office.

When the "new school" opened in Sep-1951, Ernest Bodenstad was the principal. The secretary was Leah Knapp Dusha. They were the models you can see through the partially opened principal's door. Rockwell was a stickler for details. He had the CCS principal's door taken off its hinges and delivered to his studio in West Arlington, VT. He took many photographs of the door to get every detail just so.

Norman Rockwell & United Nations & Cambridge

Paul Adams '64 and Pauline Adams Grimes'65 (and maybe their brother Carl and sister Mary Beth) were models for Norman Rockwell. They were in the 1953 painting United Nations. Rockwell never finished the painting. Rockwell reshaped the painting, publishing it in 1961 as his famous Golden Rule painting. Alas, during the reshaping, the Adams were removed.

Last year the paintings were restored and in December there was a re-dedication ceremony at the UN. The Adams were guests of honor. Pauline has some great photos of her grandchildren in the General Assembly auditorium and of her in one of Rockwell's paintings.

ATTENTION:  MAYBE YOU CAN HELP THE FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Cambridge Fire Department will be hosting a celebration of our 150th Anniversary on July 16, 2016. Following a day of parade, muster events, and music, the night will end with a fireworks display.

We would love to pay for these fireworks by donations from the area businesses and public.

Part of the history of the fire department was our annual carnival and firework display.

Any donations can be mailed to the Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 554, Cambridge, NY 12816. Please write "fireworks" in the memo

Save July 16th on your calendars for a day of celebrating our history

Thanks to all who have sent in responses to the assignment!!

I pray your Memorial Day Weekend is a safe and happy one.  Please remember those who gave their lives so you still have the freedoms that you are enjoying.  Give thanks to the Lord that we have men and women who love this country enough to put their own lives in danger for us.

Pauline
