25th Anniversary for CCS Class of
1983
By Ken Gottry
The class of 1983 will
be celebrating its 25th anniversary at the CCS Alumni
Weekend on July 18-20. The CCS alumni committee is striving to
increase attendance by the younger classes so here’s your chance
Class of 1983 to show up and show off.
The 1983 Chieftain
was dedicated to Mr. John Tully, who advised and encouraged
the class for 6 years.
Mr.
Howard, Mr. Brown, and Mr. Leone headed the school
administration while Mrs. Schoen, Mr.
Iseman, Mr. Holder, Mr. Erhardt,
and Mr. Thornton served on the Board of Education.
The class history
started in Kindergarten with naughty Jimmy
Rubino being tied to his chair by Mrs.
Elo. First grade had Ann watering
Mary Petteys in a flower pageant. In
second grade Rob somehow got himself stuck in a garbage pail.
A highlight of fourth
grade was Mr. Romack with Noah the
Boah. Mr.
Odess’s class attempted to build a long house in fifth
grade. Ms. Carelli’s class ran the
zoo downstairs in sixth grade.
In seventh grade
Mr.Stroebeck thought he smelled
smoke and, sure enough, the auditorium was on fire. French class
was a big hit in eighth grade. In ninth grade, Mr.
Vitello exhibited his skill at
throwing chalk into the garbage pail no matter where the class
positioned it.
In tenth grade the
teachers dominated the scene with Mr. Crowe and Star
Schreck and the
Schreckies. The junior year included the play Almost
Eighteen, a fire drill that interrupted the Junior Prom (Barry
Manilow was the theme), and Mr.
Morton pushing the class to prepare for the regents.
The Senior Ball was
entitled Somewhere Down the Road. The
field hockey team was league champs, the soccer team was
sectional finalists, and the basketball team at 21-2 was league
champs. The years of hard work and camaraderie culminated for
the Class of 1983 with graduation on June 26.
