CCS Alumni Association Scholarship
On Thursday evening June 24, 2010 the 48th annual Awards Night was held in the CCS gymnasium. Through the generous donations of alumni, we were able to present the second annual CCS Alumni Association Scholarships. These awards go to CCS seniors who have demonstrated a caring for and commitment to school and community during their high school career.

The 2010 recipients are

MATTISAN ROWAN - attending Villanova University where majoring in either Chinese or Arabic and minor in Political Science
JUSTIN BRAUN - attending SUNY Cobleskill majoring in Dairy Production and Management

PETER BRAUN JR - attending SUNY Cobleskill majoring in Turf management

EXPLANATION FROM KEN GOTTRY
Saturday afternoon is the picnic and class photos. Since there's food involved, the planning needs to be more precise and there is a cost to alumni.

Saturday night we're just providing a place for alumni to gather. No food, no photos, nothing except a cash bar. So we don't need RSVPs.

The idea for Saturday night came about because we always seem to be kicking people out when we close up at Sat 7pm. Many alums ask us "where can we go now?". So we thought we'd keep the Legion open for them. If it rains, we can always go inside. 

 

For the past two years, younger alums have shown up near the end of the Friday night reception. We feel bad having to kick them out at 9pm. So we thought maybe they'd come to the Legion Saturday night. We thought if we made the nighttime event a continuation of the afternoon event, then the younger alums wouldn't come, either because of the cost or because they'd still see it as a old-timer's event. 

 

So, it kinda boils down to Sat 1-7pm is for the oldsters and 7-11pm is for the youngsters. Of course we're not going to card anyone ;-) We're just providing a gathering spot for alumni on Saturday night.
